Active Patient Safety Strategies, QA and QI
Supporting Best Practice and Evidence Based Medicine
Quantum Informatics revolutionizes patient clinician connectivity in the I.C.U. and O.R. settings. Seamless integration of “multiple information feeds” connecting physicians with patients to expedite real-time responses to real-time adverse events.
The concept of an active Patient Safety Strategy (aPSS) is a significant new development within the Quantum Informatics Technology. Central to the aPSS philosophy is its ability to support the physician deployment of clinical best practice directly to the patient and in real-time.
Best Practice Strategies
A range of Best Practices strategies can be developed by the clinical team to support a range of clinical settings including I.C.U.s and the O.R. Additionally Best Practice strategies can be developed for various Patient Populations and Clinical Procedures. A Profile is the name given to a specific configuration of a best practice and a profile can be assigned to an individual patient when it is deemed necessary using the Command Center (central viewing system) or at the bedside when a Quantum Workstation is being used.
Furthermore, clinicians with system privileges can make changes to a deployed best practice in real-time e.g. changes to specific alert settings to further enhance individual care strategies or reduce alarm fatigue.
Best Practice Violations & Ongoing Compliance
Near real-time compliance reporting systems combined with various Best Practice and Evidenced Based Protocol Apps provide a flexible approach to the consistent delivery of quality and safe patient care. The functionality of the Quantum Informatics technology ensures that clinicians are made aware of best practice violations as they happen and in near real-time. Intra-case compliance tools ensure that non-compliance data can be analysed in near-real time during clinically relevant time periods, such as change of shift or following clinical interventions.
Comprehensive Data & Compliance Analytics
The use of analytics is an essential element to the QA, QI improvement process and wholly dependent on having access to clinical data across large patient populations.
The Quantum Informatics technology facilitates the continuous transfer of clinical interventions and diagnostic data to the VISON server SQL database.
In the first instance it is essential that department heads and administrators have access to tools to gauge compliance to the currently deployed Best Practice initiatives.
The analysis of overall compliance is in fact a “data calibration process” to determine the usefulness and value of the collected clinical data. Spectrum Medical provides a range of tools that allow compliance to be measured by Hospital, Department, Procedure and individual Best Practice Protocols.
Finally calibrated data can be used to analyse outcomes and trends for an individual patient or patient population. The output from such a process could lead to the modification of existing, or the addition of new Clinical Best Practices and Evidence Based initiatives.
The use of the VISION database and Harvi Case Playback technologies contribute significantly to this process.
